How To Keep Your Energy Levels High Throughout The Day

by Chuck Oese L.Ac.

One of the common concerns I hear from my patients is that their energy dips during the day and that they have a hard time recovering and getting back to their day without the help of some kind of artificial stimulant.

We tend to rely on things like caffeine or other chemicals to take the place of other more natural ways to boost our energy levels.

The problem with coffee, soda or other stimulants like "energy drinks" is that they may give us a quick boost but the results never last and can actually even make us worse off in twenty minutes. The long term effects can even lead to common conditions like anxiety, diabetes or even adrenal fatigue.

Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE a good cup of coffee or three. And the good news is you should continue to have that afternoon cup of coffee if you'd like.

What I'm going to share with you is a few easy ways to keep your energy flowing throughout the day without the NEED for coffee or sugar.

1. Hydration- You'd be amazed at the amount of times I've heard a patient say that they drink less than three glasses a day. Water is so important and you should drink 3-4 liters per day, which equates to 7 or 8 glasses. Set yourself up for success and keep a canteen or water bottle with you if you're leaving the house or at work. Extra points if you can fill it with filtered water. Just adding more water can have dramatic effects ranging from less fatigue and anxiety to better sleep and less aches and pains.

2. A Quality B-Complex Multivitamin- Our super-busy lifestyles make it hard for us to get the quality nutrition that our bodies need. This can zap us of the small amounts of energy we do have stored within our bodies. A high quality multivitamin can help our bodies make up for the deficiencies in our diets. These nutrients and minerals will lead to a more restful nights sleep and even help us heal from those little nagging injuries you may be experiencing. If your body is not as stressed from those deficiencies, GUESS What? MORE energy. I use Seeking Health Optimal Multivitamin with methylated B-vitamins which we also offer for sale in our clinic.

3. Mindful Breathing Combined With A Movement Practice- Take a 15 minute break and sit in a strong posture, close your eyes and just breathe. Or if that's not in your repertoire, try yoga or Foundation Training practices that aim to align fluid movement with mindful breathing and meditation. In concert, these activities help balance and restore energy and reduce fatigue.

Three easy steps for you to start on your own today. Try these steps for a couple of weeks and be mindful of the increase in your energy levels.

Don't forget about the power of acupuncture and herbal medicines in treating these issues as well.

Your First Appointment at Mountain Sun Acupuncture

by Chuck Oese L.Ac.

Prior to an initial appointment at Mountain Sun Acupuncture we will send you a welcome email with all the information you'll need for a successful treatment. This will include a link to our patient portal where our HIPAA, new patient and patient contact information forms can be filled out before your arrival. This gives Chuck Oese, L.Ac. a chance to review your chief concerns and prepare for your visit.

When your arrive at your appointment we will begin by answering any questions you may have regarding acupuncture or our clinic. A detailed health history will be conducted so that we can assure that we're identifying the root cause of your concerns and not just treating the symptoms.

After we complete the health history we'll prepare you for the acupuncture. Many of my new patients begin with a postural assessment to determine if there are any muscle imbalances in the body that may be contributing to their symptoms of discomfort. Depending on the results of your assessment and main concerns we may decide to treat one or both sides of the body. I will then begin the acupuncture and you'll relax for 15-30 minutes. Many of my patients take this time to fall asleep while on the table.

After we remove the acupuncture needles we may decide to add exercises to your treatment protocol to further improve the results of the treatment. You'll be taught 1-3 exercises and given detailed instructions on how to perform these exercises between your acupuncture appointments.

We will finish by giving you an idea of how often we would like to see you and schedule future appointments prior to your departure. You can expect your first treatment to last 75-90 minutes.

I understand that it can be intimidating to schedule an appointment for acupuncture if it's your first time. I will do my best to answer all your questions and communicate thoroughly throughout the appointment to make you as comfortable as possible.

5 Simple Ways to Relieve Back Pain Today

by Chuck Oese L.Ac.

1. Stand More

An average person with an office job sits about 8 hours per day and some research shows signs of people sitting up to 15 hours per day. Sitting can cause a forward head posture which puts stress on your entire spinal column leading to back and neck pain. Start by standing 6 minutes per hour while working at your desk, a 10% decrease in sitting. Walk around your office while on a phone call or invest in a standing desk. Just 6 minutes an hour can add up quickly. Gradually increase the amount of standing over time to see even more benefits.

2. Sit Properly

Use your core to sit tall and keep your head directly over the shoulders. Don't let the chairs back rest do the job our core should be doing. We tend to collapse into our chairs causing compression and flexion of the spine. Try the following exercise one minute per hour to get started. Place an object between your knees like a jacket or tennis ball and squeeze that object while mindfully sitting tall. Activate your core, pull your chin back over you sternum and breathe deeply. Remember to keep your core activated on the exhale and see if you can make yourself taller on the inhale.

3. Improve Your Posture While Surfing Your Phone

Look around and notice how people surf their phones. I'll bet their neck is in a flexed position, chin tucked, as they look down and check their status and posts on social media. Bring that phone up to eye level and surf your phone while using a proper sitting or standing posture.

4. Do a Founder

Dr. Eric Goodman created a movement practice called Foundation Training to help reduce his back pain and avoid life changing back surgery. Go to click the tab free resources and sign up for a free 30 day founder challenge. With this simple but challenging exercise you can reduce pain and increase strength in minutes a day.

5. Get Acupuncture

Acupuncture and cupping combined with movement therapies such as Qi Gong and Foundation Training can be very effective at relieving back pain and strengthening the posterior chain of muscles(the back of the body). Changing our everyday movement patterns is the first step to successfully eliminating pain and relief can be immediate with acupuncture to support our new healthy habits.

Chuck Oese L.Ac. offers postural assessments, acupuncture and Foundation Training to all of our patients during an initial treatment. You can request a free consultation at or by calling 720-588-2801.
